Swan Project

Now, this once-dreamed-of fantasy “The Wonderful Adventures of Nils” has become a reality. Through the integration of traditional bird banding and cutting-edge miniature wildlife tracking devices, we present GPS with a camera – Swan Eyes.

On 21 December 2023, at Lake Izunuma-Uchinuma in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, Swan Eyes (GPS logger with camera) was deployed on 10 Whooper Swans. By logging on the Ecotopia Web or App platform, you can explore Swan Eyes photos, swan locations, environment, and activity data. Beyond facilitating our journeys atop swans, this data opens avenues for scientific exploration in avian ecology. It empowers researchers to delve into critical aspects like tracking, habitat selection, individual relationships among birds, bearing immense significance for both the specific species and the broader ecological landscape.
