Announcement of Kane Brides as new Co-Coordinator of Icelandic Whooper Swan population

With the next international censuses of migratory swans in Europe and west–central Asia looming in January 2026, we are delighted to report that the Swan SG’s Membership Secretary – Kane Brides – is joining Dr Olafur Einarsson as Co-coordinator of the Icelandic Whooper Swan population for our group.

Many of you will know that Kane is passionate about Whooper Swans, has written several papers on the species, and with key co-authors he also coordinated and reported on the results of the January 2020 census for Whooper Swans wintering in Britain, Ireland and Iceland. He therefore is fully conversant with the requirements of monitoring the species and we’re very happy that he’s agreed to take on this additional role.
